This week's parashah, Va-et'chanan (וָאֶתְחַנַּן — "and I pleaded"), D'varim/Deuteronomy 3:23–7:11, includes Moses's pronouncement of the Sh’ma and v'ahavtah, commanding Israel to show love for Adonai and keep His laws and ordinances; and he again warns the people not to worship the gods of the nations to conquered in the Promised Land, a land he will not be able to enter, even though he pleaded with God.
