This week's parashah, B'ha'alot'kha – בְּהַעֲלֹתְךָ ("when you step up") – Bamidbar/Numbers 8:1 - 12:16, the menorah in the mishkan (tabernacle) is described along with the responsibilities of the Levites. The people kvetch to Moses about the lack of meat; in response they get meat, but also a plague (be careful what you wish for). Miriam and Aaron complain about their brother Moses and his "different" wife. Miriam is punished with a skin disease that is cured after Moses prays on her behalf. (be careful who you gossip about).
