This week we open the fifth and final book of the Torah, D'varim – דְּבָרִים ("words") – D'varim/Deuteronomy 1:1 – 3:22, in which:

• Moses begins his long goodbye to the Children of Israel

• He reviews the people’s reactions to the negative reports of the spies and the naming of Joshua as successor

• Moses reiterates that the Promised Land was allocated to the Israelite tribes.
