Volunteer Coordinator Job Description

Job Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator's primary goal is to sustain a robust volunteer program that helps volunteers provide meaningful work that helps our clients feel supported and respected.  The coordinator assures that volunteers are mission driven and appropriate to be part of the JCSH team. This role is vital to our success and ability to serve and create community.

The Volunteer Coordinator should be enthusiastic about both volunteer work and working with volunteers. They should uphold the organization's values while ensuring the comfort and safety of the volunteers and clients alike.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers assuring good boundaries and the comfort of both clients and volunteers
  • Foster trust with volunteers including group supervision meetings
  • Collect and manage confidential information about volunteer availability, skills, and interests, and maintaining an up-to-date database
  • Utilize marketing tools such as outreach programs, e-mail campaigns, and volunteer databases
  • Match volunteers to opportunities that are a good fit for their skill sets and ensure they understand their responsibilities and receive appropriate training
  • Organize training sessions and conduct on-the-job training
  • Develop Volunteer Manual that outline operating procedures to ensure that the organization's values are adhered to
  • Most work is remote but some in person activities will exist like volunteer orientation

Qualifications

  • A university or college degree is considered an asset but not required
  • Volunteering, coordination/management and recruitment experience
  • Working knowledge of databases/Exel and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent interpersonal, time-management, communication skills including a sense of humour and a respect for diversity

Salary/Hours

This position is part time and paid hourly based on experience.

8-16 hours a week on average
